About Me
Bringing Scientific Precision and Storytelling Together
I help authors and researchers bring clarity, confidence, and polish to their writing—without losing their voice or watering down their ideas.
Hi, I’m Telani Lasoleille — a copyeditor with a love for language, a background in science, and a deep respect for every author’s unique voice.
Like many copyeditors, my journey started with a love of reading and a reputation for catching every typo. But what sets me apart is the lens I bring from years of working in animal behavior and applied sciences. Whether I’m editing a suspenseful thriller or a manuscript on cognition in dogs, my goal is the same: to bring clarity, consistency, and confidence to your writing—without ever losing your voice.
Why I’m Especially Passionate About Editing in Animal Behavior and Science
Long before I began editing professionally, I built a career in canine behavior and positive reinforcement training, helping both animals and humans better understand each other. That work led me to earn a graduate certificate in Applied Animal Behavior from the University of Washington, as well as certifications in behavior consulting and cooperative training.
Through that experience, I learned how to break down complex ideas for practical application—a skill that transfers beautifully to the world of editing, especially in academic writing. With a strong foundation in animal behavior science and an eye for clarity, I bring a unique perspective to the editing process. My background in behavioral research and communication helps me navigate the terminology, tone, and expectations common in academic and research-based writing—allowing me to approach each project with insight and care.
If you’re looking for animal behavior editing services, proofreading for animal behaviour journal articles, or simply want a copyeditor who understands scientific nuance, I’m here to support your goals as a specialist in science communication.
Credentials & Continuing Education
I’ve formally studied copyediting through UC San Diego, where I sharpened my technical knowledge of grammar, usage, and style. I continue to deepen my understanding of editorial best practices through coursework, workshops, and daily work with fiction and nonfiction authors.
Some of my professional credentials include:
Graduate Certificate, Applied Animal Behavior, University of Washington
Certificate in Copyediting, UC San Diego Extension
Certified Professional Dog Trainer & Behavior Consultant
Member, Pet Professional Guild (PPG #48310054)

What I Believe
I believe copyediting should feel like a collaboration, not a red-pen showdown. I see my role as part coach, part clarity-creator—someone who supports your goals while gently refining what’s already working. Whether you’re writing your first YA fantasy novel, revising a thriller, or preparing an animal science manuscript for peer review, my editing philosophy is rooted in curiosity, precision, and kindness. My academic background is in animal behavior science, and I bring that same rigor and attention to detail to my work with fiction authors.
When I’m not editing or working with dogs, I’m usually reading (no surprise there) or listening to podcasts about linguistics, behavior, and science communication.
“Telani did an outstanding job with her beta read — her comments were thoughtful, precise, and deeply attentive to the details that matter most.”
